The Seidler Foundation scholarship requires 11th grade applicants to complete the FSA Estimator. The FSA Estimator is completed by students who are not yet in 12th grade and it provides an estimate of what their SAI (Student Aid Index) will be when they complete the FAFSA in 12th grade.
SAI stands for Student Aid Index. This index shows what aid the student is eligible for.

Based on continued eligibility after 12th grade, the scholarship starts the fall after high school graduation when the student first enters college.
____________
What do I need to do my 12th grade year to remain eligible to receive the 11th Grade Scholarship?
While students receive notification of being awarded a scholarship at 11th grade, to receive the scholarship when starting college, they must have remained enrolled at Jefferson High School full time, have graduated on time, and have earned a 3.0 cumulative high school GPA. They must also complete and submit the Senior Year Eligibility Check Form by June 15 of their senior year.
____________
What are the annual renewal requirements to continue the 11th Grade Scholarship over the four years?
To ensure continued eligibility to receive the scholarship, awardees are required to verify that they remain eligible at the end of 12th grade and after each college academic year. ____________
What kinds of postsecondary credentials or degrees can I complete with the scholarship?
The Foundation supports completion of a certificate and/or associate’s degree at 2-year colleges and also completion of a bachelor’s degree at 4-year colleges. With four years of scholarship eligibility, an awardee can complete an associate’s degree and then transfer to a 4-year college to complete a bachelor’s degree.
Remember that attendance at a 2-year college is a $5,500/year scholarship and attendance at a 4-year college is an $11,000/year scholarship.
The scholarship also supports combination programs of study for which students earns bachelor’s and master’s or associate’s and bachelor’s degrees simultaneously – these programs are rare but do exist at some campuses and in some majors.
____________
What can scholarship funds be used for?
Scholarship funds are paid directly to the campus where you are enrolled. They are not paid to the student.
Funds can be used to support tuition, fees, books, supplies, food, housing, and qualified educational expenses as determined by federal regulations. The College or University financial aid will manage fund distribution.
____________
What campus can I attend with the 11th Grade Scholarship?
You are not limited to attendance at a specific institution or institution type; however the scholarship may only be used at accredited institutions. The scholarship supports attendance at a 2-year college (certificate and/or associate) and/or at a 4-year, public or private college.
In 2025, the Seidler Foundation started a new 12th grade scholarship to support students to enroll only at Kirkwood Community College. If an 11th grader is fairly certain that they will enroll at Kirkwood Community College, they can apply for the 11th grade scholarship and do not have to wait until 12th grade to apply.
Applying at 11th grade (if awarded) gives the student assurance that they have financial support for college and also gives them the opportunity to change their mind if they decide not to enroll at Kirkwood Community College but to attend another postsecondary institution.
Also, if an 11th grade applicant does not receive the scholarship, is fairly certain they will enroll at Kirkwood Community College, and is eligible to apply, the student can apply for the 12th grade scholarship when they are in 12th grade.
____________
If I want to or need to change campuses after starting college, will it affect my scholarship?
The Foundation understands that students may change campuses during their college career – they may complete an associate’s degree and transfer to a 4-year college or they may need to change for many other reasons. The scholarship is not based on staying at one campus or one campus type.
On your Annual Renewal Form, due by June 1 each year you are in college, you will indicate which the campus where you are enrolled for the coming academic year – this information lets the Foundation know where to send your scholarship payment.
____________
Do I have to be studying a specific major? What if I change my major after starting college?
The scholarship may be used for any major.
The Foundation understands that students sometimes change majors. On your Annual Renewal Form, due by June 1 each year you are in college, you will indicate your current major. Remember that you have only four years of support so it is critical that you progress toward degree completion.
____________
If awarded a scholarship, am I really provided a laptop for my college years?
Yes, the Seidler Foundation knows that purchasing a laptop can be a huge financial burden, so it provides each of its scholarship awardees with a laptop for their use during college. Laptops will be issued at the end of 12th grade by the JHS staff.
It is critical that awardees read and understand the Laptop Policy which is found at https://seidlerfoundation.org/scholarship/.
You will also be required to sign a Laptop Policy Form indicating that you have received your laptop.
____________
Can I use the Seidler Foundation Scholarship to pay for study abroad expenses?
The Seidler Foundation encourages study abroad experiences because of the vast learning that occurs. If study abroad expenses are charged to and paid from your college student account, Seidler Foundation funding can be used for study abroad expenses. The program needs to be sponsored by your college/university and be an approved credit-bearing course(s).
Study abroad tuition and fees are generally charged to and paid for through your student account and the student earns credit hours for the experience. Housing expenses will vary because campuses generally work with third-party entities to sponsor their study abroad experiences so you will need to ask your campus Financial Aid Office if the housing can be charged to and paid from your student account.
____________
Can I appeal if something happens and I cannot start college the fall after high school graduation or if I do not meet eligibility requirements while on the scholarship?
To request an appeal and/or learn more about what special circumstances will be considered to apply for an Appeal, a student must complete and submit the APPEALS FORM (https://app.

What is the Cornell College Opportunity?
In 2023, the Seidler Foundation entered into a partnership with Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa (https://www.cornellcollege.edu). This partnership is called the Cornell College Opportunity.
Each year, the Seidler Foundation awards scholarships to qualified recipients. From among the new awardees, the Seidler Foundation and Cornell College jointly selects a limited number of awardees to be eligible to attend Cornell College. These awardees will have all direct costs (tuition, fees, housing, and food) paid by the Seidler Foundation and Cornell College and external private scholarships and funding secured by the student.
Awardees selected for the Cornell College Opportunity that enroll at Cornell College will have direct costs paid for up to four (4) years. ____________
How can I transfer previously-earned college credits or earned credits for AP classes/tests taken in high school?
College credits and AP classes/test taken in high school will be documented on your final official high school transcript. Campuses you apply to will see the transcript and assess any potential credits to be received from your high school work. However, it is important that awardess discuss with the campus they will be enrolling at any credits earned in high school that would possibly transfer into your college of attendance. Each campus decides which credits are transferrable. If transferring from an associate’s degree to a bachelor’s degree granting institution, it will be crucial to know which credits will and will not transfer in from the associate’s degree.
____________
What if I have other questions?
If you have a question and cannot find the answer on our website or from JHS or Kids on Course staff, email info@seidlerfoundation.org

Appeals Process - 11th Grade Scholarship
The Seidler Foundation understands that life happens and that students may need to delay the start of or may need to pause their academic career and that students may have legitimate reasons for not meeting scholarship renewal eligibility criteria. So, the Foundation does provide an opportunity to appeal when special circumstances arise. Appeals are possible for:
- Requesting a delay in the start date of college
- Requesting to pause college and then to return the following semester
- Requesting consideration of probation due to not meeting renewability criteria (3.0 college GPA and completion of 24 college credit hours annually)
To request an appeal, a student must complete and submit the APPEALS FORM (https://app.smarterselect.com/programs/91406-Seidler-Foundation). Requesting an appeal does not mean that the appeal will be granted. All appeals decisions are final.
Laptop Policy - 11th Grade Scholarship
The Seidler Foundation understands that students will need a laptop and that paying for a new laptop can be a sizable expenditure for a new college student.
Therefore, the Seidler Foundation is pleased to provide a laptop to each of its scholarship awardees that have maintained eligibility for the scholarship during their 12th grade of high school and that are enrolled in and planning to attend college the fall after graduation from high school.
The laptop is issued by Jefferson High School at the end of the 12th grade year, upon completion of the Senior Year Eligibility Form. The high school and the Seidler Foundation maintain a log of serial numbers of laptops issued to awardees. Students are required to sign the Laptop Policy Form when they receive the laptop.
- The scholarship awardee is responsible to keep the laptop in good working condition and to cover costs of repairs that may be needed.
- The Foundation intends that the awardee use the laptop throughout college. Awardees that successfully complete college with a degree within the four years of scholarship support will be eligible to keep the laptop and will not be asked to return it to the Seidler Foundation.
- The awardee will return the laptop within one week if they drop out of college or are deemed no longer eligible to be a Seidler Foundation scholarship recipient. The laptop should be mailed from a UPS or FedEx store so that it is packaged correctly.
- Lost or stolen laptops will not be replaced by the Seidler Foundation.
Questions about the laptop that are not covered in this Policy can be directed to info@seidlerfoundation.org

SAI stands for Student Aid Index. This index shows what aid the student is eligible for.

In fact, if you earned credits through and from Kirkwood Community College, KCC will have a record of this. However, it is important that awardees discuss with Kirkwood Community College any credits earned in high school that will potentially transfer into your college of attendance.
Each campus decides which credits are transferrable. If transferring from an associate degree to a bachelor’s degree granting institution, it will be crucial to know which credits will and will not transfer in from the associate degree. Appeals Process - 12th Grade Scholarship for Kirkwood Community College
The Seidler Foundation understands that life happens: students may need to pause or delay the start of their academic career, or students may have legitimate reasons for not meeting scholarship renewal eligibility criteria. So, the Foundation does provide an opportunity to appeal when special circumstances arise. Appeals are possible for:
- Requesting a delay in the start date of college or to start in summer after high school graduation rather than waiting until fall
- Requesting to pause college and then to return the following semester
- Requesting consideration of probation due to not meeting renewability criteria (2.0 college GPA and completion of 24 college credit hours annually)
To request an appeal, a student must complete and submit the APPEALS FORM (https://app.smarterselect.com/programs/91406-Seidler-Foundation). Requesting an appeal does not mean that the appeal will be granted. All appeals decisions are final.
Laptop Policy - 12th Grade Scholarship for Kirkwood Community College
The Seidler Foundation understands that students will need a laptop and that paying for a new laptop can be a sizable expenditure for a new college student.
Therefore, the Seidler Foundation is pleased to provide a laptop to each of its scholarship awardees that have maintained eligibility for the scholarship during their 12th grade of high school and that are enrolled in and planning to attend college the fall after graduation from high school.
The laptop is issued during orientation activities at Kirkwood Community College. The college and the Seidler Foundation maintain a log of serial numbers of laptops issued to awardees. Students are required to sign the Laptop Policy Form when they receive the laptop.
- The scholarship awardee is responsible to keep the laptop in good working condition and to cover costs of repairs that may be needed.
- The Foundation intends that the awardee use the laptop throughout college. Awardees that successfully complete college with a degree within the two years of scholarship support will be eligible to keep the laptop and will not be asked to return it to the Seidler Foundation.
